Four Chaplains Day

Four Chaplains Day

On February 23rd, 1943, the Dorchester was hit by a torpedo. On board were 902 servicemen, only approx. 230 survived. Of the lives lost were four Chaplains, George L. Fox, Methodist; Lt. Alexander D. Goode, Jewish; Lt. John P. Washington, Roman Catholic; and Lt. Clark V. Poling, Dutch Reformed. The ship did not have enough live vests for their passengers; these four men willingly gave theirs up and did their best to calm the nerves of other servicemen. Learn more about their story at our program on January 29th, with the presentation of the Four Chaplains aboard the U.S.A.T Dorchester.

Joining us will be two local military Chaplains, including the first woman Chaplain of the U.S. military, and an army veteran.

Dr. Ha Tuong Book Program
Nov

Dr. Ha Tuong Book Program

Born and raised in South Vietnam, the author (Dr. Ha Tuong) is the eldest son of parents who came from North Vietnam.

Upon retirement, he focuses his efforts on researching the Vietnam War and supporting the Vietnam Veterans and the voiceless SE Asia nationalist veterans, via authoring, lecturing and updating history with verifiable factual information. His Vietnam: Peace or Freedom book series currently has two books, Two Minnows (memoir of an ARVN soldier) and The War (war research-based analysis).

Two Minnows was among the Finalists in the 2020 International Book Awards in the military history category. This Memoir reads like an adventure novel even though it is the non-fiction real life story of a platoon leader of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam during the last few years of this complicated war.
